Oak boards being glued onto screed, with a hammer and a bucket of adhesive beside them

Service 01

Parquet laying

We lay solid and engineered parquet on a prepared, flat and dry subfloor, so the floor is stable and quiet.

Much of the work of laying parquet is done before the first board goes down. We check the subfloor, level it where needed or build a new one, for example from OSB boards, and then lay the parquet in the pattern we agreed on.

We glue the parquet directly to the screed or another prepared subfloor, which gives a firm, quiet floor. Along the walls we leave an expansion gap, covered at the end by skirting boards, and finish the transitions between rooms with thresholds.

Parquet laying

What we pay attention to

01

Subfloor

The screed has to be flat, firm and dry enough. We level any unevenness, and on a timber or unsuitable base we can build a new subfloor from OSB boards.

02

Gluing

We spread the adhesive over the whole area with a notched trowel and weigh the boards down while it cures where needed, so they bond evenly to the subfloor.

03

Expansion gaps and finishing

Wood expands and shrinks a little with humidity and temperature. That is why we leave an expansion gap along the walls, covered by the skirting boards.

How we work

From the first visit to a finished floor.

A clear process means fewer surprises. At every step you know what comes next.

  2. 02

    Advice and quote

We help you choose the parquet, pattern and finish and prepare a quote describing the work.

  3. 03

    Preparation and work

We prepare the subfloor, then lay, sand or restore the parquet as agreed.

  4. 04

    Finish and handover

We protect the floor with lacquer or oil and explain at handover how to look after it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What kind of subfloor can parquet be laid on?

Most often on cement or anhydrite screed, but also on an existing timber base if it is firm and flat. Where needed we level the subfloor or build a new one from OSB boards. After a visit we can tell you what suits your room.

Is parquet suitable for underfloor heating?

Parquet can be laid over underfloor heating if we choose a product the manufacturer approves for it and the screed is dry enough before laying. We will help you choose.

When can parquet be laid on a new screed?

Once the screed is dry enough. How long that takes depends on the type and thickness of the screed and the conditions in the room. We check the moisture in the screed before laying, because a damp subfloor can damage parquet. Call 041 829 532.
