A sanding machine with a dust bag on a light parquet floor during sanding

Service 03

Parquet sanding

Sanding removes old layers of lacquer, scratches and dirt and prepares the wood for a new finish.

We sand parquet in several passes, from coarse to fine abrasive. First the large machine sands the main area, an edge sander takes care of the strips along the walls, and finally the surface is levelled and smoothed.

While sanding, the machines are connected to a dust extractor, so there is less dust in the room. After sanding we fill the gaps with a filler mixed with sanding dust from the same wood, so the colour matches the parquet.

Parquet sanding

What we pay attention to

01

Several passes

Each pass with a finer abrasive removes the marks of the previous one. The result is a smooth surface on which lacquer or oil spreads evenly.

02

Edges and corners

Along walls, radiators and thresholds we use smaller sanders, so the surface is the same across the whole room.

03

Gap filling

We fill the gaps between the strips with a filler mixed with sanding dust from the same parquet, then give the surface one more fine sanding.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many times can parquet be sanded?

It depends on how much wood there is above the tongue and groove. Solid parquet can be sanded many times, engineered parquet only if its top layer is thick enough. We check the thickness during the visit.

Is there a lot of dust during sanding?

The sanding machines are connected to a dust extractor, so there is much less dust than when sanding without extraction. Sanding is never completely dust free, so it is best to take everything out of the room.

Do we need to empty the room?

Yes, the room has to be empty for sanding, because we sand the whole floor. What to do with built-in furniture and skirting boards is agreed during the visit. Call 041 829 532.
